Automotive
Design services is focused on special purpose commercial vehicles such as ambulances and rescue units. This covers concept, exterior styling, functional packaging, opertional ergonomics... government regulation compliance and technical design details.
With design experience in the automotive industry DBID can develop vehicle designs meeting the required function and which are compatible with the engineering and styling characteristics of the base vehicle or chassis. This is achieved by close collabaration with the original vehicle manufacturers engineering and design staff.
DBID has an understanding of the diverse manufacturing technologies between high volume production and low volume techniques required in producing special purpose vehicles. Such understanding assists specialist bodybuilders achieve design levels compatible with original equipment manufacturers. DBID uses the same CAD programs as used universally in the automotive industry.
DBID has worked with leading bodybuilders in designing vehicles for use in Australia, Japan, Malaysia and UAE. These include ambulances, postal delivery vans, fire tenders, military personell carriers, corporate entertaining vehicles, commuter buses and touring coaches.
Marine
With design specialists in Industrial and Interior Design, Naval Architecture and Structural Engineering. DBID provides a comprehensive design capability to the marine industry from marine products to complete vessel design and construction details.
While our prime function is the creation of imaginative innovative concepts for new vessels, this is supported by a design development process that ensures the technical, accommodation and aesthetic qualities are optimized to achieve a successful design outcome.
With a background in automotive design, we have an excellent understanding of the importance of good design in generating the necessary emotional responses required for market success. This is considered of equal importance for a series production boat, or an individual custom build.
In a volume production situation, we see design as a key strategic tool to the long term business planning of the company. It is only through considered and constant design that a company can maintain its market position. Design is the method of communicating its message to both current and potential customers.
Design is considered equally fundamental to the success of a yacht created for a private individual. Innovative solutions both technical and aesthetic are developed to interpret the owners requirements in terms of the yachts use and the expression of that individuals personality.
Whilst ensuring compliance with the relevant shipping codes we are also mindful of ensuring the core brand values of the shipyard involved and consideration of the sale ability of the vessel in an open market situation.
DBID is experienced in design of all types of vessels, both commercial and leisure, large and small, power or sail and in all construction materials.
Our design process follows clearly defined stages with progressive review points:-
- From the design brief, several alternative designs are prepared showing the external appearance, internal accommodation and technical layout. These are presented a illustrations and technical plans in both traditional drawings and CAD formats.
- The overall design is then formalized from the preliminary concepts, in terms of exterior styling, accommodation layout, interior décor, technical specifications and performance targets.
- Finally, comprehensive details are developed for manufacture:- hull and super structure surface geometry, moulding or fabrication detail, interior cabinetry and furnishings, structure, equipment installation, weight and performance calculation, code compliance etc.
All design details are developed using appropriate CAD programs including 3D animation. All output data is fully compatible with CAD-CAM machinery.
